Entry Registration is Open
This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older. Professional brewers are also welcome as long as their beer is brewed on a home-system and not a professonal system.
This year’s competition is two opportunities in one: Spring Fling and Central Oregon Pro/Am.
Spring Fling
The Spring Fling competition is open to ALL beer, mead and cider represented in the 2021 BJCP Beer, 2015 Mead, & 2025 Cider categories and sub-categories.
This competition will be utilizing the BJCP 2021 Beer, 2015 Mead, & 2025 Cider Guidelines.
Qualified judging of all entries and feedback to the entrants is the primary goal of Spring Fling. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.
The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging of the top winners.
Submit: Three 12oz/350 ml crown-capped bottles (no swing-tops) or cans.
Pay: $13 (USD) per entry
The Prizes: COHO logoed medals with neck lanyards will be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers; Best of Show (BOS) will receive a plaque in addition to the respective gold medal; BOS runner-up, Second runner-up & highest scoring entry will all receive ribbons plus their respective medals.
But maybe you should also…
Go Pro for a Day: The Central Oregon Pro-Am
Ever wondered what your recipe would taste like on a professional scale system? Here’s your shot at the big leagues. We’re giving you the chance to step out of the garage and into the brewhouse.
The Prize: Winners will spend a full day brewing their winning recipe alongside industry legends. You’ll scale up your grain bill, talk shop with the pros, and see your beer come to life on a professional scale. [Note: Winners will need to travel to Central Oregon for their brew day at their own expense.]
The Heavy Hitters: We’ve assembled an all-star roster of partner breweries, including:
• Deschutes Brewery & Boneyard Beer
• Sunriver Brewing & Bevel Craft Brewing
• Wild Ride & Terranaut
• Worthy Brewing & Crux Fermentation Project
• Bend Brewing & Spider City
• ...with more to be announced soon!
The Grand Finale: The journey culminates on Saturday, November 7th at Boneyard Pub. One overall champion will be crowned at our People’s Choice event, with proceeds benefiting a local charity chosen by the winning team
How it works:
-
Submit two extra 12oz bottles for the pro judges.
-
Pay an additional $5 entrance fee per entry
-
Win a collaborative brew day with Central Oregon.
-
Compete against all the Pro/Am winners for bragging rights and raise money for a good cause at the People’s Choice event.
Details:
Entry fee is $13 (USD) per Spring Fling entry and $18 (USD) for each combined Spring Fling and Pro/AM Entry. IMPORTANT: For a combined entry, use the member discount code: PRO/AM (this will result in an entry fee of $18).
We will only be accepting online payments. Please do not send or drop-off cash or a check with your entries. PayPal is the way to pay for your entry on this site. Send your payment directly to treasurer@cohomebrewers.org via PayPal.
All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).
The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.
The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.
Brewers may enter more than one beer in each category but may enter each subcategory only once. For example, in say category 25, participants may enter a Belgian Blond (25A), a Belgian Saison (25B) and a Belgian Golden Strong (25C), but may not enter two Saisons, etc., even if they are different brews (e.g. light & dark Saison). The exception to this rule is category 21B, Specialty IPA, and category 27, Historical Beer, since each has, in essence, multiple sub-categories. Additionally, Historical Beer & Specialty IPA are not limited to those listed in the BJCP guidelines; however, if the Historical Beer or Specialty IPA is not listed, the brewer MUST describe the style parameters so it may be properly judged. Spring Fling is recognizing Northeast-style IPA as a Specialty IPA.
The competition committee reserves the right to combine categories based on the number of entries in each category. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.
Bottles will not be returned to entrants.
Entry Acceptance Rules
Each Spring Fling entry will consist of three 12 ounce, or 350 ml crown-capped bottles or 12oz cans that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. If entering the Pro/Am,add an additional 2 bottles or cans for a total of 5 bottles or cans that should be submitted. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely. ONLY 12 oz.bottles/cans or 350 ml bottles will be accepted due to the need for uniformity for storage in beer cases.
An exception is for Mead entries and Mead entries ONLY. 3 Bottles of a minimum of 7 oz constitute an acceptable entry.
Brown glass bottles are preferred; however, green and clear glass will be accepted.
Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.
Completed BJCP bottle ID forms must be submitted with all entries, and can be printed directly from this website at those links. Bottle ID forms should be attached to bottles/cans with a rubber band only; glue and/or tape are unacceptable.
Please fill out the entry forms completely. Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified (this pertains to specialty beers). Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' ability to properly score of your entry.
Brewers may enter more than one beer in each category but may enter each subcategory only once.
The exception to this rule is category 21B, Specially IPA, and category 27, Historical Beer as mentioned above under COMPETITION RULES.
